The best system is not the one with the most folders. It is the one you will still understand six months from now. For most Cricut, Silhouette, and laser-cutter collections, that means keeping each purchased bundle together and adding only a small amount of structure around it.

One purchase stays together, including its source and usage details.

1. Create one home for purchased designs

Choose a folder on your computer or external drive called Craft Designs. Move new purchases there after downloading them. Do not scatter master files between Downloads, Desktop, and several cloud folders.

2. Organize first by source, then by bundle

Create one folder for each shop or marketplace, then keep the seller’s original bundle folder inside it. This makes it much easier to recover an order or check the original listing later.

Keep the original ZIP as a backup until you know the extracted folder is complete.

A ZIP can preserve the seller’s original structure if files are accidentally moved or renamed later.

3. Keep useful formats together

An SVG, PNG, DXF, and EPS with the same artwork are not automatically duplicates. Different machines and projects may need different formats. Keep them together as versions of one design until you are certain a format has no value to you.

4. Save something you can recognize

Keep the seller’s preview image when one is included. If Windows does not show SVG thumbnails, use the Windows SVG preview guide before creating hundreds of screenshots manually.

5. Add purchase and licence details immediately

Place the receipt, licence document, and a shortcut or text file containing the original shop URL inside the bundle folder. This takes less than a minute at download time and may save a long search later.

What if folders are no longer enough?
